HPV
You may have heard various media advertisements encouraging girls currently aged 12-13 or 17-18 to contact their GP surgery for their HPV vaccination. This is part of an ongoing programme to vaccinate all young women currently below the age of18 and will form part of the routine course of vaccinations offered for future generations.
If you are currently aged 12-13 or 17-18, or have someone living at home who is, please do contact the surgery for an appointment with the Practice Nurse.
HPV is a virus which can lead to cervical cancer and the vaccination, which consists of a course of three injections spread over six months, significantly protects women developing this disease, alongside having regular smear tests which are also still very important.
More information on cervical cancer and HPV can be found at www.cervicalcancerinfo.co.uk.
Please do contact our Practice Nurses if you have any queries.
Remember - get the vaccination and arm against HPV.
