PRESCRIPTIONS

Both Hadleigh Health Centre and Boxford Mill Surgery have fully stocked dispensaries, with trained dispensing staff. The hours of opening are the same as for each surgery. Please note that Boxford dispensary is closed from 1.00pm to 3.00pm. Hadleigh dispensary remains open all day.

If you have repeat prescriptions you should have a repeat prescription computer slip. This should be presented at the dispensary where you will be able to pick up the prescription after 48 hours.

Patients who live more than one mile from the centre of Hadleigh have their prescriptions dispensed at the surgery.

Patients living in Hadleigh itself have their prescriptions dispensed at one of the two dispensing chemists in Hadleigh. Repeat prescriptions are usually passed direct to the chemist, to save you having to collect the prescription yourself and carrying it round the chemist. All you need to do is advise the dispensary staff as to which chemist you wish to use. Please do allow 48 hours for your medication to be ready.

If you are entitled to free prescriptions or have a season ticket you will be asked to show your exemption certificate or season ticket.

To avoid mistakes, we do not accept requests by telephone. We do however have a fax machine which does allow rapid communication with the health centre and Boxford, including repeat prescription requests.

If you do happen to lose your 'repeat slip', it's not the end of the world. All medication details are recorded on our computer system. You can still order a repeat prescription by asking at dispensary.

Almost all regular medication needs to be reviewed periodically. How often depends on exactly what you take. Your 'repeat slip' lists all your regular tablets, creams, inhalers etc, and also the date by which you should have your regime reviewed by a doctor. Beyond this date, medication will only be issued in small quantities, in order to keep you going until you see your doctor.

It is our policy to support the recommendations of the prescribing advisors at the Primary Care Trust regarding the issue of prescribed drugs. Our normal issue is 28 days supply.

We do run a diary system at both Hadleigh and Boxford for regular repeats. If you would like more information, please speak to one of the dispensers.
