Infection prevention control annual statement

< Back to policies & procedures

The health and Social Act 2008, the Code of Practice on the Prevention and Control of Infections and related guidance that the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) lead produces an annual statement with regards to compliance with good practice on infection prevention and control.

Hadleigh Health Centre Infection Control Lead is Tracey Elliott with the support of two other clinical leads Faye Knights and Jeff Ingleby.

All of our staff complete training on infection prevention and control, for our clinical staff this is annual. All admin staff complete their training every 36 months. In addition to this Hand hygiene training for all staff is completed annually.

Significant/learning events (both good practice as well as challenging events) are investigated fully in detail to see what can be learnt and steps taken to provide any future improvements. All events are discussed weekly in the Business meeting, and any learnings are cascaded to  relevant staff within the practice.

All our policies reflect the national guidance and are in date, these are reviewed annually or earlier if current advice, guidance, and legislation changes. These are kept on our shared drive and are available to all our staff. The Practices infection control team has the ultimate responsibility for ensuring that IPC policies, protocols and systems are in place. Each member of staff within the Practice know that they have their own part to play in ensuring they rigorously
follow the correct processes without supervision.

Our infection control lead and team support the surveillance of health associated infections, monitoring standards and auditing. The infection control team does audits of staff hand hygiene, clinical practice audits, cleanliness audits. We work with our external cleaning contractor to ensure that the premises adhere to the National standard of healthcare cleanliness.

As a patient or member of the public, it is important to make sure that you are aware of the infection prevention and control information that is available to you and how this can help you prevent infections. All toilets have guidance on 'Best practice, how to wash your hands'.

If you have any concerns about infection prevention and control, please do make us aware, for any immediate concerns please discuss this with one of our infection prevention and control leads or a member of the management team
