Repeat Prescriptions
Please allow 3 full working days for prescriptions to be processed and remember to take weekends and bank holidays into account
There is no need to call the dispensary to confirm whether your prescription is ready to collect, providing you have allowed the full 72 working hours before collection. Managed repeats (Diary Prescriptions) will be ready to collect 28 days after your previous collection.
We do not accept repeat prescription requests over the phone.
Ordering a Repeat Prescription
When you order a prescription online, you can have it sent electronically to a pharmacy of your choice. This is called a nomination.
The NHS App
Order repeat prescriptions via the NHS App or NHS website, and have them sent to a pharmacy of your choice.
Please be aware that the NHS App will only show your repeat medication in the ‘Request Repeat Prescription’ link up to seven days before it is due to be issued. For patients that use a local pharmacy or Hadleigh Boxford Group Practice Dispensary, this is equivalent to three weeks after the date you last collected your medication. For online pharmacy users, this will be three weeks after you last ordered your repeat prescription from the Surgery.
Please only contact the surgery/dispensary if you are unable to order your prescription through the NHS App within seven days of needing your next supply of medication.
Use Online Services
The easiest way to order your prescription is by using our online services.

Problems ordering your prescription online?
Manual Ordering of Repeat Prescriptions
You can drop in your repeat slip at the Practice, there is a post box located at the front of the surgery.
For our dispensing patients we currently operate a managed repeat system (Diary System) at Hadleigh Health Centre for regular repeats. If you would like more information, please speak to one of the dispensers.
Dispensing
The dispensing of medication is governed by the National Health Service (Pharmaceutical and Local Pharmaceutical Services) Regulations 2013. This allows GP practices to dispense to patients under very strict criteria. Practices may only dispense to patients who:
- Live in a controlled locality (an area which has been determined as rural in character.)
- Live at a distance of more than 1.6 km as the crow flies from any pharmacy.
- Live in an area that is deemed to be a reserved location (i.e. – when permission for the practice pharmacy was applied for, the area population was less than 2,750.)
Please do allow 72 working hours for your prescription to be processed by the practice prescription clerks.
Medication Reviews
Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see a doctor, nurse practitioner, clinical pharmacist or practice nurse at least once a year to review your regular medications. We will contact you to schedule an appointment, please ensure you attend to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.
Medpoint Prescription Collection Machine
Hadleigh Health Centre dispensing patients will have access to a 24-hour prescription collection robot that has just been installed outside the Surgery. The machine enables you to collect your repeat prescription medicines 24/7, 365 days of the year. The machine will notify you by text message that your prescription is ready to collect, so you know there will be no delay when collecting!
We have invested in making our patients lives easier during these challenging times with the automated collection point which has been designed and built in Britain. The MedPoint machine enables patients to maintain safe physical distance, avoid queues and reduced opening hours which are currently a fact of life for many.
How does the process work?
It couldn't be simpler!
- Order your prescriptions from us in the usual way.
- When your prescription is ready to collect, you will receive a text message when your prescription has been loaded into the machine, asking you to either confirm your exemption status (as when signing the back of your prescription when collecting) or whether you usually pay.
- Once you have either declared your exemption or paid for you prescription, an 8-digit PIN number will be sent to you via text message. Anyone over 60 or under 16 years of age will not be required to declare exemption or pay and will simply receive their PIN number.
- Type your 8-digit PIN number into the machine, follow the on-screen instructions and the machine will fetch your prescription within seconds!
You can register to use the Automated collection service by completing our online form, speaking to one of the Dispensing Team on your next visit or call us on 01473 822961 and select option 2. Click here to register your interest via our online form.
