Important Update: HRT Prescription Policy Change
We are updating our prescribing policy for Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). From now on, HRT prescriptions will change from being issued every 3 months to a 28-day cycle.
Why are we making this change?
- To help reduce medication waste.
- To align with our local Integrated Care Board guidance, which recommends all repeat prescriptions be issued on a 28-day cycle.
Will this cost more if you pay for prescriptions?
No. The Government has introduced a HRT Prescription Prepayment Certificate (HRT PPC), which means you only pay two charges per year for your HRT medication—just £19.80 for 12 months’ supply.

What about convenience?
We understand that collecting medication every 28 days may be less convenient for patients who only take HRT. However, this ensures fairness and consistency across all medications.
When will this happen?
The transition will begin from 12th January 2026, with all patients moved to 28-day prescriptions by February 2026
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
