To all our patients,
Back in early 2020, we had to rapidly change how we delivered care due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In accordance with the department for health we ensured that every patient was spoken to (either via phone or video call) before coming to the surgery in person. We worked to triage patients: those that could be managed remotely (without needing to attend the surgery at all such as requesting a sick note); those that needed to come to the surgery (this group could be reassured they would be in a socially distanced waiting room and were all free of covid symptoms); and even those that were displaying covid symptoms we would see in a covid safe manner (involving entering and exiting the premises via a separate route, and being seen by a specific clinician who was designated to see covid patients). This ensured we could protect our patients and staff as much as possible, but it also represented an opportunity to provide a more convenient health service for certain issues.
As the pandemic and lockdowns waxed and waned, so too has the way that patients using our services has changed. We have made many behind the scenes tweaks to adapt to this, but we have always had one eye to the future.
We recognise that telephone calls and video calls are great for some patients, but not for others. In order to meet the growing need for “on the day” appointments we have had to take away some “pre-bookable” appointments, which suit some patients but not others. We know some patients have been making use of online booking while other patients are not even aware of this service.
So, in order to plan how we can deliver the best care possible, we would like to hear your views on a range of topics. Our PPG (patient participation group) are working with us to ensure we are asking you the right questions, and this process is also being supported by the CCG (clinical commissioning group). The more patients fill in this questionnaire, the better represented your views will be.
Thank you for taking the time to complete the questionnaire.
